A native of Buffalo, I grew up in the Elmwood Village. My passion for photography started in grammar school, and after graduating from Canisius High School, I attended Rochester Institute of Technology for photojournalism. In 1996, I was hired as a staff photographer at the Democrat and Chronicle after graduating from RIT. During my career, I’ve focused my lens on breaking news and investigative visual storytelling and adapted my visual skills to include compelling documentary videos. One of the interesting aspects of my job is photographing aerials from fixed wing aircraft. In 2015 I was selected to be part of the USAToday Network’s drone program. I received intensive flight training at Virginia Tech’s Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership, an FAA-designated test site for unmanned aircraft systems. Drone technology now gives me the creative power to be the pilot and photographer in one package.
